CARDINFO.TXT Rev. October 1, 1993 This document contains information about PCMCIA cards and how to setup CardWare for using these cards. The cards are grouped by functions: A. Fax/Modem Cards B. LAN Cards C. ATA Harddisk Cards D. OTHER (like SCSI) Within the Groups the cards are sorted by Manufacturer in alphabetical order. For each card the Devices you can use are listed. Please setup the needed Devices as listed in the 'Devices' section at the end of this document. You can name the devices different if you have already devices with the same name. Please ensure that you have the resources available. If you have to edit the [Resources] section of the CARDWARE.INI file consult the CWINI.TXT file for information. Also keep in mind that CardWare is using the first 4KByte segment of the available memory for internal use. For example if you want to allocate a 64KB memory range with the base of D000H to a device your CARDWARE.INI should include the following lines: [Resources] MEM=0xCF000,0x1000,E ; 4KByte for internal use by CardWare MEM=0xD0000,0x10000,E ; 64KByte for use by Devices. ===================================================================== A. Fax/Modem Cards ===================================================================== 1. Hotline 960 CC Fax/Modem HL9672CC Remark: It is not possible to reconfigure this modem by using the 'Reconfigure' option of PC Card for Windows. The reason for this is, that the CIS information is not available after the modem is once initialized. To reconfigure this card you have to cycle it (remove the card from the slot and insert it again). 2. Intel Modem 2400+ Remark: It is not possible to reconfigure this modem by using the 'Reconfigure' option of PC Card for Windows. The reason for this is, that the CIS information is not available after the modem is once initialized. To reconfigure this card you have to cycle it (remove the card from the slot and insert it again). 3. PSION Dacom Advanced PCMCIA Modem Remark: Because of an improper CIS of some older versions of this modem, it is only possible to setup these modems as COM4. 4. Toshiba Information Systems UK Ltd Advanced PCMCIA Modem Remark: Because of an improper CIS, it is only possible to setup this modem as COM4. ===================================================================== B. LAN Cards ===================================================================== 1. D-LINK DE-650 Devices: D-Link 2. Grey-Cell Ethernet Gold Card Devices: Grey-Cell 3. IBM TokenRing Card Devices: Token-Ring Remark: This cards needs a memory window of 76KB. The requested I/O address of 0xA20 is masked to 0x220-0x227. If you have the latest driver software, please do not associate a device with this card, so that it will not be configured by CardWare. The card will be configured by the driver which came with the card. This driver works as a card services client. 4. IBM Ethernet Card Devices: IBM-Ethernet Remark: Because of an error in the CIS information, this card is recognized as a Memory card when it is inserted for the first time. For registration of the card follow this guideline: 1. Disable PCDISK in your CONFIG.SYS by placing a 'REM' in front of the DEVICE=C:\CARDWARE\PCDISK.EXE line. Please check the User Manual for further information. 2. Reboot your computer and makle sure PCDISK is not loaded. 3. Start WINDOWS. 4. Start PC Card for Windows. 5. Insert the IBM Ethernet card. 6. Register and configure the card as described in the User Manual. 7. Exit WINDOWS. 8. Reanable PCDISK in the CONFIG.SYS. 9. Reboot your computer and makle sure PCDISK is loaded. 10. Your card shuld now be recognized as the IBM Ethernet card. You can check this by starting DOSCARD at the DOS prompt. The card's CIS reports that it needs only 16 KByte of Memory, but you have to setup a memory range of 32KByte to let the card work properly (with the additional 16KByte of memory located before the required window). If you have the latest driver software, please do not associate a device with this card, so that it will not be configured by CardWare. The card will be configured by the driver which came with the card. This driver works as a card services client. 5. IBM 3220 Card Devices: IBM-3270 Remark: You must use the settings in the IBM-3270 device, because the 3270-Emulation software is expecting this hardware setting. 6. Socket Communication EA PCMCIA LAN Devices: Socket Ethernet Remark: You can modify the device to use I/O adress 0x300. The Socket card is only supported in the I/O mapped mode. 7. XIRCOM CE-10BT Creditcard Ethernet Adapter Devices: XIRCOM Ethernet Remark: The Xircom drivers CEODI.COM and PCEODI.COM are currently reconfiguring the PCMCIA controller directly, so that the controller will not be able to issue an interrupt for card removal and insertion. This will prevent CardWare from working after these drivers are loaded. ===================================================================== C. ATA Harddisk Cards ===================================================================== 1. Integral Remark: Some older models of this card are not PCMCIA compliant because of an error in the CIS information. (Tuple 0x20 CISTPL_MANFID should have a length of at least 4 bytes and is only 2 bytes long). So if your card is not working, please consult the card manufacturer for an update of the CIS. AWARD/VMI is working closely together with the card manufacturer to fix the problem for new cards. 2. Maxtor MXL-105-III Remark: Some older models of this card are not PCMCIA compliant because of an error in the CIS information. So if your card is not working, please consult the card manufacturer for an update of the CIS. AWARD/VMI is working closely together with the card manufacturer to fix the problem for new cards. 3. Ministor MP85P Remark: Some older models of this card are not recognized as 'Generic ATA' drives. So if your card is not recognized generically please edit the card association and associate the 'ATA' device with the card. AWARD/VMI is working closely together with the card manufacturer to fix the problem for new cards. 4. Western Digital ATA CU-140 Remark: This card is not PCMCIA compliant because it has no CIS information and no Configuration-Option-Register'. So there is no way for CardWare to support this card. AWARD/VMI is working closely together with the card manufacturer to fix the problem for new cards. ===================================================================== D. OTHER Cards ===================================================================== 1. New Media SCSI Card Remark: Add he following line to the [Resources] section: I/O=0x140,0x20,E,10 Do not associate a device with this card, so that it will not be configured by CardWare. The card will be configured by the ASPI driver which came with the card. This driver works as a card services client. ===================================================================== Devices ===================================================================== D-LINK: Type: Other I/O Range 1: 300 16 2: 310 16 Memory Range 1: D400 4 2: D600 16 IRQ Level: 5 Grey-Cell: Type: Network Adapter I/O Range 1: 300 32 2: [None] [None] Memory Range 1: [None] [None] 2: [None] [None] IRQ Level: 5 IBM-3270: Type: Network Adapter I/O Range 1: 2D0 16 2: [None] [None] Memory Range 1: CE00 8 2: [None] [None] IRQ Level: 9 IBM-Ethernet: Type: Network Adapter I/O Range 1: 300 32 2: [None] [None] Memory Range 1: D000 32 2: [None] [None] IRQ Level: 5 Socket Ethernet: Type: Network Adapter I/O Range 1: 3E0 32 2: [None] [None] Memory Range 1: [None] [None] 2: [None] [None] IRQ Level: 9 Token-Ring: Type: Network Adapter I/O Range 1: A20 8 2: [None] [None] Memory Range 1: CE00 8 2: D000 64 IRQ Level: 5 XIRCOM Ethernet: Type: Network Adapter I/O Range 1: 300 16 2: [None] [None] Memory Range 1: D000 4 2: [None] [None] IRQ Level: 5
