The (very short) datasheet for the 82C601A updates one feature from:
o   16 mA Output Drives
to
o   16mA and 24mA Output Drives

It goes on to say:

"The system  bus interface  buffers are capable  of sinking  24mA, the
parallel port interface signals are capable of sinking 16mA"

This is the  only difference that has been  found, although the entire
(long) datasheet for the 82C601 has not been read. YMMV.
